What is the best processor for a Radeon RX 580 8GB?

At 1440p the Ryzen 5 4500 is the strongest pairing that stays balanced, for about 22 fps on High. Nothing faster adds frames, because the Radeon RX 580 8GB becomes the limit.

What processor should I pair with a Radeon RX 580 8GB at 1080p (1920 x 1080)?

The Ryzen 5 4500, for roughly 30 fps on High with no bottleneck in either direction.

What processor should I pair with a Radeon RX 580 8GB at 1440p (2560 x 1440)?

The Ryzen 5 4500, for roughly 22 fps on High with no bottleneck in either direction.

What processor should I pair with a Radeon RX 580 8GB at 4K (3840 x 2160)?

The Ryzen 5 4500, for roughly 8 fps on High with no bottleneck in either direction.

Best CPU for Radeon RX 580 8GB in 2026

Every processor that pairs with the Radeon RX 580 8GB without either part wasting the other, computed at 1080p, 1440p and 4K with the frame rate you can expect from each.

Our pick

Ryzen 5 4500

The cheapest current processor that never becomes the limit for a Radeon RX 580 8GB, including at 1080p where the card leans hardest on the CPU. It also still holds up if you replace the Radeon RX 580 8GB with a GeForce RTX 3060 8GB later, so you buy the processor once.

What the numbers say about the Radeon RX 580 8GB

Every one of the 83 processors we track keeps a Radeon RX 580 8GB fed at 1080p and above, which is what a card at 16.0 on our index looks like: the pairing question here is about price and platform rather than about whether the chip can keep up.

Estimated frame rate on High for the Radeon RX 580 8GB with the Ryzen 5 4500, at each resolution.

The Ryzen 5 4500 is both the cheapest processor that works with a Radeon RX 580 8GB and the one that survives replacing the card, so for this pairing there is no trade between the two.

That upgrade test uses the GeForce RTX 3060 8GB, roughly two tiers above the Radeon RX 580 8GB at 28.0 on our index against 16.0, and a processor that is still not the limit at that level is one you buy once.

Paired with the Ryzen 5 4500, a Radeon RX 580 8GB returns about 30 fps at 1080p and 22 fps at 1440p on High, and if 30 fps is already more than your monitor can show then the card rather than the processor is the part to change.

The pick at each resolution

Resolution	Recommended	Estimated fps	Result
1080p (1920 x 1080)	Ryzen 5 4500	30 fps	GPU limited
1440p (2560 x 1440)	Ryzen 5 4500	22 fps	GPU limited
4K (3840 x 2160)	Ryzen 5 4500	8 fps	GPU limited

Every processor that works with the Radeon RX 580 8GB at 1080p

83 of the 83 processors we track keep the Radeon RX 580 8GB fed at 1080p, and the 18 cheapest of those still on a current platform are below, least expensive first, because once a chip stops limiting a Radeon RX 580 8GB the rest of the budget belongs on the card.
